Damar Hamlin, the Buffalo Bills safety who collapsed on the field Jan. 2 during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, was released from the intensive care unit at a Cincinnati hospital on Monday and has returned to Buffalo, the doctors caring for him at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center announced during a news conference.

Hamlin, 24, has continued to improve since suffering a cardiac arrest on the field last week. He was transported to a hospital in Buffalo for ongoing care, but the doctors said that Hamlin is no longer in critical condition and met several requirements for transport, including no longer needing intensive nursing care or intensive respiratory therapy.

Hamlin had his breathing tube removed last Friday and has been able to walk, though doctors said he is still regaining his strength and will continue to undergo tests.
