What was your favorite scene to film and why?
Chiara Gheller: My favorite scene to film was the one where Star (Kimberly), Ashley (Grace), and I – who play Shay – discovered the real reason behind Garrett’s (Chris) absence. It was the most emotional to play coming from “I’m sorry I ever doubted you” to “I’m fearing for my life” and this 180° was great to portray; I used substitution to get me to the right mindset in 10 seconds.
What drew you most to the role of Shay when you first read the script?
Chiara Gheller: Ironically, I was originally thought of for the role of Star, but in the process of casting we realized that the role of Shay was a good fit for me since her whole character would need to be played in layers and undertones, which is one of my favorite challenges. Shay has a past with both Ashley as a best friend and Garrett as ex-lover, so the nuances were great to play for me.
What was the most challenging moment to perform emotionally in the film?
Chiara Gheller: I’d say the reveal of Garrett’s real reason to be absent was emotionally challenging to play since it was doing a complete 180° from remorseful to scared, passing by disbelief, but honestly the first altercation between my character, Shay, and Garrett was very interesting to play because I needed to make the audience understand our relationship without saying anything – love that kind of challenge!
