SAN FELICE DEL BENACO, ITALY — A delegation from Georgia’s Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce, led by President and CEO Nick Masino, visited San Felice del Benaco on October 17, highlighting the growing dialogue between communities in the United States and Italy centered on science, innovation, and cultural engagement.

The meeting was organized in collaboration with MAGI Group, an Italian leader in human genetics and molecular diagnostics, and its American counterpart, MAGISNAT, based at Atlanta Tech Park. The initiative reflects the vision of Dr. Matteo Bertelli, a San Felice native dedicated to fostering international collaboration in biomedical research.

“This is not just about research—it’s about connecting people and ideas across cultures,” said Dr. Bertelli.

Business Leaders Engage with Italian Researchers

The Gwinnett delegation included representatives from healthcare, technology, finance, and advanced manufacturing. During their visit to the MAGI Biomedical Research Center, guests met with Italian scientists conducting research in genomics and preventive medicine. The exchange emphasized shared scientific interests and provided an informal platform for discussion about global challenges in healthcare and innovation.

Nick Masino noted the importance of these encounters, underscoring that global understanding often begins with local relationships and mutual learning.

Local Leadership and Global Perspective

Mayor Marzia Manovali welcomed the visitors, expressing pride in San Felice del Benaco’s capacity to serve as a bridge between cultures. She described the town’s heritage of craftsmanship, sustainability, and entrepreneurship as evidence that small communities can play meaningful roles in international engagement.

“Collaboration begins with openness,” said Mayor Manovali. “San Felice del Benaco is proud to share its culture, traditions, and innovative spirit with friends from abroad.”

Heritage and Hospitality

The day concluded with a visit to the Rocca di Manerba del Garda, where Dr. Carla Ghidinelli, Councilor Raffaella Bertini, and Dr. Simone Don offered historical insights into the region’s rich archaeological past. The tour provided the American guests with a deeper appreciation for the cultural and environmental beauty of the Lake Garda area.

A Moment of Shared Appreciation

While the visit did not include formal agreements or commitments, it reaffirmed a shared appreciation for dialogue, science, and culture. The occasion underscored how communities on both sides of the Atlantic can come together through curiosity and mutual respect — values that transcend borders and disciplines.

As the sun set over Lake Garda, the gathering symbolized the enduring potential of human connection — grounded in history, inspired by science, and guided by goodwill.
