The authorities in Los Angeles said on Wednesday that they had arrested a woman and charged her with attempted murder after she pointed a gun at officers who were on an unrelated manhunt.
Police officers were pursuing the suspects in a hit-and-run case who had fled into the Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles on Tuesday. When they arrived at the back of a house where one of the suspects had last been seen, they saw a woman armed with a handgun in the yard of a neighboring house, the police said.
They later identified her as Jillian Lauren Shriner, 51. Ms. Shriner is an author and is married to Scott Shriner, who plays bass in the rock band Weezer.
The officers asked Ms. Shriner to drop the weapon numerous times but she refused. The officers shot her when she pointed the gun at them, the L.A.P.D. said in a statement. She went into the house, which the police later learned was her home, and was taken into custody when she came out.
The police said she was treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening, and that no other injuries were reported. Officers found a 9-millimeter handgun at her house, the police said.
Ms. Shriner was charged early Wednesday with attempted murder, with bail set at $1 million, according to the public arrest record. She was released on bond Wednesday night.
Ms. Shriner has written two best-selling memoirs as Jillian Lauren: “Some Girls: My Life in a Harem” (2010) and “Everything You Ever Wanted” (2015). Her husband is scheduled to perform with Weezer at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Saturday.
Ms. Shriner’s manager did not respond to a request for comment early Thursday.
